Skater

My girl is a traditional girl. She prefers dresses over jeans, nail polish over plain, pink over blue, playing house, school and dolls over climbing trees, catching bugs and getting muddy.

So it was a shock when we heard last September that she desperately wanted a skateboard for her ninth birthday. Out of everything on her long list, she put Skateboard on top.

I know she is not the only girl to have a skateboard in our town, but she's the only one on our one-street neighborhood. The boys deemed her cool. The girls looked on with a hidden sparkle.

Loving her skirt as she took her first ride; still clinging to her inner self.
