It is most difficult to put into words the awesomeness of families coming together, where half of the kids have never met, and with in minutes we are working as a true team for God's children.
The kids ran around all day, taking different leadership roles, supporting each other, laughing, smiling, and only some shedding tears when the day was done when we had to say goodbye. They were sharing the why of their day's mission with amazing confidence. They get it. They get that there are children just like themselves abandoned, forgotten ... but loved by SixtyFeet and the team of Cupcake Kids around the country who will no longer abandon or forget them.
When it came to helping customers, they showed outstanding community by pointing to the different varieties to choose from, and giving their sales pitch commentary. And boy, did we have such a variety ... everything from the Basic White cupcake, to Banana, Red Velvet, Oreo, Strawberry Banana, Lemon filled, S'mores, and Cookies and Cream, just to name a few. You name it, I am almost positive that we had it. Even the Peeps were represented.
The Cupcake Kids loaded up plates for customers to take home multiples, or cupcake boxes for those really big orders. We had one man swing by dressed in business attire - a local mortgage/real estate broker who was bringing back a dozen for his co-workers. We had Grandparent stop by to stock up on afternoon treats with their grandkids. We had young kids headed to baseball tournaments that needed some sweets in the car for the long drive. We had Landscapers on their afternoon break needing plenty.
Community. They came, we shared, they gave from their heart ... more eyes have been opened to these children of SixtyFeet. We handed out these cards to all who came so that they could read firsthand off the SixtyFeet website ... and additional seeds will be planted.
Lasting friendship between three families who have a goal to make this an annual tradition. This was too much fun, and loads of witnessing God's favor not to do it again, and again, and again ...
After packing up the stand and saying goodbye to our team, we headed to the city for Opening Day of baseball season. We noticed then that our kiddos had gotten a sunburn from their day of outside selling. Wow - can we have possibly made it to Sunscreen Season?!
