Up and out the door by 8am we spent the day with our girl's ballet company's production of Peter Pan. My chaperon role was a piece of cake this year. Now that my girl and her friends are older, the chaperon's role was to make sure that the girls obeyed the rules of sticking together and telling me (and partner chaperons) where they were headed if they needed to leave the theater seats. Their only options were 1) lobby to eat their sack lunch or 2) bathroom. But they could go in pairs this year and didn't have to be joined at the hip by an adult. Yay for fifth grade.
If they were not eating or using the restroom the girls were sitting in their assigned rows and backstage helpers came to get them when it was time to go back stage, or to the photography "studio" to get their class pictures taken. The dancers were mesmerized to see the entire show on stage. It is much more fascinating with the backdrops and special lighting in place. The stage and the story of Peter Pan came to life. It was fantastic!
With out further waiting ... here are some sneak peak pictures of my girl dancing Ballet to a great Flamenco style of dance as Lobsters in the Lagoon ... and then a quick change with two dances separating her performances to Tropical Birds, which is a very quick paced Amazon style of dance for her Modern class.
Both dances were very effective.
Thank you to my husband who rented some great lens and spent his day taking pictures for our family, and our friends in the cast. He is truly talented. So grateful he is ours.

That lens sure was worth the rental fee. I didn't know you could rent lenses. Terrific shots.
The bird costumes look professional; they are so good.
This dance studio really goes all out and seems much more than the typical small town dance studio. I wonder if your daughter will continue her dancing into college.
Great pictures! How nice to have a photographer in residence!!
"Your" dress (you get some credit for all that feather stitching) looks great too.
Thanks, Rachael! I must admit that I was pretty pleased when we arrived in the studio to see the other girls' creations that my girl and her close friend had the most feathers and looked fantastic. Well worth the long hours.
Tina ~ not sure what my girl's plans are for dance post High School. The short term is getting to pointe, the long term is finishing the studio as a graduating senior. And yes, this is a huge deal and production, not a typical small town dance recital. Teaches the girls so much about theater, performance, and confidence ... and dance. =)
In one of the bird costume pictures, she looks exactly like you.
Does this studio also do all the other forms of dance?

Tina ~ yes, they do ballet, tap, jazz, modern and lyrical. But some are only offered to a certain age group, and some require you to take a corresponding dance. For example, you have to be in ballet to take modern.
