HAPPY SUMMER!

We are officially on Summer Break! I was happy to pick up my Middle School Daughter and my 4th Grade Son today at 12:30pm to start vacation.

My daughter played a great flute solo, Crater Lake Overture, during the 5th Grade Talent Show this morning.  Dressed in the dress that she wore the first day of fifth grade, my girl got a roaring applause, hoops and hollers from the audience before and after her performance.  She giggled all the way up to the microphone, and all the way back to her seat.  She is just so festive!  I am so proud of her for learning the Flute during band this year all. on. her. own. and for taking a confident chance at playing a solo at the Talent Show. She had great control and tone of that Flute.  It was super!
Close friends were part of the show too.

Beautiful soloist who sang The Climb by Miley Cyrus ~ perfect for graduation!  The crowd was speechless; she did fantastic!
Dancing solo to Hoe Down Throw Down also by Miley Cyrus. She got the crowd pumped up for graduation and summer!
This friend is in my daughter's class and he made up a song to sing to their teacher.  He had her come up on stage.  It was so fun.  The perfect finale to the Talent Show and to 5th Grade!!!
As an end of the school year gift, my girl got a great sweatshirt from the University in which she wishes to attend.  However, it is a rival school from the college that my son longs to attend.  Here is HIS reaction when my girl unwrapped the sweatshirt gift from my parents, and then a reaction of my girl as she reads her new American Girl book: A Smart Girls Guide to Starting Middle School:
I am so proud of you kiddos for working so hard this entire school year, for bringing your best to school every day, for taking your academics seriously every year.  PROUD OF YOU.  Now ... let Summer Begin!!!

What a way to end the school year with a talent show. Fun! Congrats to your daughter for her solo and learning the flute this year on her own. Also, what a nice tradition to have an end of the year present and cake. Did you make the sunshine cake? It's adorable.

I was going through my daughter's closet a few weekends ago when I was cleaning in there getting ready for their arrival and saw her prep school sweatshirts, college sweatshirts from her and my SIL's college and his law school. Some were hers and some are mine that are now too small (gained a few pounds). I thought that in a year, they'll fit Katya as everyone loves wearing sweatshirts big. It'll thrill her as she wants to go to her mom and dad's alma mater (and my daughter went to grad school there too). How can it be so long since my daughter was in prep school? Time goes too quickly and even faster now that I'm a grandma.

Enjoy your first full day of summer vacation tomorrow.
