We just returned from seeing this movie and having dinner out discussing. Our consensus is that it was just okay. The biggest issue that we had was that all of the problems went unresolved. While it was refreshing to have a two hour movie not be so typical with an ending of "happily ever after", we felt it went the other extreme in not solving any issues and problems. That too is unrealistic in growing up and in life. Some issues, such as anger, can be resolved through communication. This movie had a lot of yelling and anger, but no real communication.
Our children missed a lot of the symbolism and hidden meanings. Or, perhaps, my husband and I were looking too deep.
While youngsters of all ages were in the theater, the toddlers were talking by the time we landed with the Wild Things as their interest had left, and by the time the movie had ended, the older ones were just left with a blank stare. The adults kept the laughter going at the appropriate times, and seemed to want to chat about their take behind each Wild Thing Character.
An interesting twist to this beloved childrens book. Our family would recommend sticking with the book.

This morning I was lounging between my fleece sheets (love 'em in the cold weather) talking to my girlfriend and she told me her daughter was taking her 9 year old daughter to the movie. It's a rainy Sunday in CT so I bet there will be a lot of others also going to that movie with their kids.
My daughter told me you two had written.
