Outstanding Student Award 2010

It has been one year since my son first tested in Tae Kwon Do. Last year this month, he had his first test for yellow. A year later, he has tested and passed a total of five belt levels. Tonight was the sixth test in a year with hopes of a pass to hi-blue belt.  Every test shows more strength and more power from my son, more confidence and more knowledge.

While he broke his board on the second kick, it was still not enough time for me to snap a decent video. He was that quick this time around. I remember his first board took a good number of kicks. Thankfully my husband has a fast eye and snapped this perfect picture just in time.
I remember thinking when my son first started; "How will he ever memorize his forms? They are so long, with so many different movements." Well, he has always come through with practice and confidence.

Tonight his form was solid. Determined. Mastered. He really has shown great improvement even from his last test in October. He was focused and ready to end the year strong.
So when the annual awards ceremony was hosted by the master instructor after the belt testing, my family each had a camera or video ready to roll, just in case. And sure enough, my son was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Student Award for 2010; with his name engraved on the award too. Beaming - I was so excited and happy for my son. He has worked very hard, and I am so pleased that he was recognized for his persistence and leadership.
Of course we are staying up late tonight, having gone through the drive thru at Dairy Queen for yummy treats, to celebrate a fantastic first year in Tae Kwon Do.
Celebrations to you, my dear son!! xoxo

What a honor! Good that you captured it with your camera.
