Last night we were entertained to the sounds of peace from our town's Youth Symphony, Philharmonia, and Debut Orchestra. Beautiful Music!
My daughter started band with the flute through the school system one year ago, and has continued the class into her current sixth grade year. One day a flute teacher was invited into the band to help, heard my daughter play, and invited her to audition for the Youth Symphony Orchestra. This woman happened to be the Executive Director and founder.
My daughter went, tried out, and was accepted. She is currently playing in the Debut Orchestra and their first concert was last night. They started the show with two songs. Made up with her flute, a trombone, a saxophone, a small handful of violins, a cello, and a harp ... this small, first time player's did Awesome! They were in tempo together (a small victory in and of itself) and they played with emotion filled dynamics. It was a successful first showing.
The remainder of the night showcased the rest of the organization's players. They too did a wonderful job and we are looking forward to my girl graduating to the higher levels throughout the years (as she feels interested in continuing).
Because this is not a sponsored organization through the school system, but rather privately run, there are many kids throughout the area that attend. My daughter does not know a soul, and during the two months of rehearsals, the kids have kept to themselves and been pretty much "all business" during weekly practice. At this age, and mixed grades, it is hard for the kids to just socialize and get to know one another one their own (which would have had to have been outside of practice).
But she said coming out of the concert last night that it was nice to finally "hang out" in the church basement before the concert to get to know her group better. I think her level of fun continued to go up a notch as a result. Apparently, it is a nice bunch of kids! Yea!
It was a peaceful night, despite the torrential downpour of rain hitting the church windows, filled with our cities Youth Symphony Orchestra's beautiful music.

What a great experience for her. She's also in with a group of clean cut, serious students. I felt the same when my daughter was involved in competitive figure skating. Both require dedication and lots of practice.
Did you use hot rollers, curling iron or old fashioned rollers on her hair? It looks so cute.
We use the Conair Infiniti - which is like a curling iron, but it does not have the clamp/spring handle. It is just a heated barrel on a stick and you wrap each section of hair to get the spiral curl. It is pretty time consuming, so we only use it when we have time and for special occasions.
Since I have very short hair, I'm not up on the latest.
It looks really pretty.
