Rubba Dub Dub

Our Cora got a bath and nail trim today. I remember when we first got her I was so excited to give her baths and pamper her and I wondered if my enthusiasm for the task would eventually fade. Our first dog that my husband and I owned was a very tall Labrador - Golden Retriever mix and he was bathed outside, once every summer. But with Cora, being an inside dog, and much smaller, and the princess of the house, I am proud to report that I still enjoy bathing Cora frequently. Partly because she is so calm and squeezably cute during these times, and partly because as soon as she is dry, she smells wonderful and her fur is all fluffy.

However, I wouldn't say that she gets excited about bath time, it is actually the opposite. I will set up our laundry room first with the towels on the counter and the sink mat in place. Then, I will come out and search for her, because yes, she has already figured it out and has hid some place. I find her in the funniest locations with her ears pinned to her head and her tail slightly wagging. I hold her for awhile and she just clings to my shoulders with her front paws, her head burrowed under my chin, as if the worst is coming.

But while she is getting the treatment, she is very still. I don't know if I trained her or if Carrie trained her, but Cora will not shake when she is wet until the towel is wrapped around her and she is dripping on the other towel on the counter. She is a very good beagle. As she dries, she perks up with a bunny like hop around the house ... you know she feels so cute! And she's right.

I love the smell of a clean dog! And how great that you've trained Cora to sit still. Our chihuahua is easy to bath, and relatively cooperative too. But, Carl, our lab/retriever mix is neurotically afraid of baths and frankly, we've given up. We even tried taking him to a professional dog groomer/bather who also gave up! Kristen and I were petting and brushing him the other day and we were joking and saying in cute lovey voices to him, "Carl, baby, you smell like a dog who hasn't had a bath in five years!" Brushing helps though. He only stinks if you get your nose right up in his fur, or if he gets wet! lol.
