While my daughter was sleeping in at her best friend's house this morning, my son came with me to my Orthodontist appointment. We do not own a DS, or other portable device that supposedly provides hours of entertainment on-the-go, so my son opted to take a chance and read a magazine from the office.
My Ortho office has three dental chairs sitting in a semi-circle with a bench in the same room for overflow patients waiting their turn. My son sat on the bench. At one point I casually looked over for a peak to find him engrossed in a magazine. He was so adorable; intently reading while adults were buzzing around working on other adult's teeth.
Thankfully my checkup was quick, and when I went over to tell him I was done, he asked me to take a picture with my cell phone camera of this "Awesome Soccer Cake!" so that he could duplicate it once home. (Camera's on Blackberries are just about useless; such a poor quality photo!).
We had everything already in the pantry, so it was a quick afternoon hobby for him to whip this up. He is so kitchen-able and we love it! Chocolate cake, green food coloring in white frosting, white icing for the goal markings, and pretzels for the goals.
Here is his Soccer Cake - adding his own flare with a mini-marshmallow in the middle as the soccer ball - inspired by a magazine he found while being totally cute at my Ortho appointment. Go, Son!! Yay, no DS!
As he said, "That Disney magazine was really good!" Hahaha ~ he has no idea what he was reading ~ Family Fun sponsored by Disney.

Fantastic. How great that he likes to be creative in the kitchen.
Last Sept. 3, my daughter made a soccer ball cake for my granddaughter's 9th birthday and she blogged it (if you want to check it out).
How do you survive long car rides with 2 DS's?
Tina ~ we don't own any DS's, the kids are good about doing long car rides "the old fashioned way". =)
I found your Granddaughters soccer cake. That is a HUGE soccer ball!! Very cool ~ it looked fantastic! YUM.
He's really talented in the kitchen! Good job!
