Ball time ... it's Saturday

The next few months have our Saturday mornings taken at the court watching my son play basketball. He has turned into a better aggressive ball player and it is so fun to watch. I am sure it is age, and the fact that his daddy is coach this year, that has sparked his interest in the sport. But there is nothing better than seeing my son run full speed up and down the court, dribbling the ball with more accuracy, and attempting baskets ... all while having fun.

My husband, the great photographer that he is, has had to accept the mediocre accuracy of my photography attempts with this season's shots. Understandably, he can not coach and do his photography at the same time. But poor guy, he set the camera up today with the telephoto, got the ISO and whatever-all perfect, and handed it off to me with a hopeful smile and wink ... I knew he was just dying to do it himself.

But I didn't do so bad - considering I didn't know how to adjust anything on the camera to compensate any original guess of my husband's settings. My daughter, taking a turn in the second half, however did fantastic!! She has her daddy's eye. A glimpse of what she captured:

I like to think that the long lashes that God gave me since day one has something to do with the fact I can't look in that tiny, little hole to take the picture. But in reality, I know that is not true, and rather it is the high-tech buttons that I have yet to comprehend. I need about another 24+ hours in my day to accomplish my wish list of to-dos to improve thyself.

Snap shots

This is one of my favorite, recent pictures of my husband and me. As you can see, it was taken at the Grand Canyon while vacationing on an Anniversary celebration. There are not too many pictures of the two of us together. Not because we hide from the camera, but because we just don't think about it. There are not too many pictures of my parents together either, and again, I think for the same reasons.

It will sound egocentric when I say this, although I am not trying to be, but I think my children would find it important when they are older to have snap shots of my husband and me. I know that I love the pictures of my parents; especially the one I found when clearing out some old boxes the other day. I believe it is an engagement photo and I just love it! To see their love has not wavered brings me strength and peace.

This year, I am going to try to do better about taking pictures of both sets of our parents and of each other. I love photographs.

Mud

I wish I would have received a call from school after my son fell into mud during first recess. He was going down the fire pole at a high enough rate of speed that he could not make a foot landing, and instead found his tail feathers in mud. He was caked in the brown stuff. Why didn't they call me? I spent the day resting at home, but would have certainly ran to school with a fresh pair of jeans. ~ sigh ~

The part that warmed my heart, however, was the story after the fall. My daughter volunteers in my son's classroom every Wednesday during her first recess. Lucky for him, today was Wednesday, so upon returning to class after the mud match, he found his big sister in the room. He went over to her and she immediately put on her "mommy hat" and went to work. She took his coat and wrapped it around his waist and tied it tight. Then she gave him a hug and assured him that nobody would notice or care. So sweet.

The wash has started, the kids are playing, my husband is working in the den, and after three days of resting, I am finally leaving the house to have a cozy dinner with my college buddy.

FB....Facebook

Reluctantly, I got hooked up with Facebook recently. At first, I did not see the fascination that so many of my friends had been talking about. Perhaps it was because all the "my friends" on Facebook were people I talk with on a regular basis. I already know about them; and now I know when Patti takes a run for the store and when she is watching TV. Alright. Fine. But is that adding anything to my day?

So, I let it go for awhile. Then got razzed by my friend who is totally into FB and wanted me to add all the Flair she had given to me. Flair? What? Why...? But I did. And then it started. I added My Family too and joined a cause and started a Lil'Green Patch; until I found that part of that garden patch you must add real coin to purchase stuff. I quickly jumped off that page!

I left it again for awhile.

Then I got a request from a person from high school that I barely even remember. Eeeh. Do I really want them snooping my info? I ignored the Friends Request. Will I be getting a bad reputation? Is this bordering High School popularity games and cliques? How many people do you know and who will be your friend ...

But on the other hand, a week later I got a friend request from someone that I did want to get reconnected with and that is when Facebook turned really neat. Okay, not really neat, just handy, I should say. I found out that the girl I grew up with, who was my closest friend for twelve years, is doing well. We lost complete contact when we went separate ways in college and every once in awhile I would wonder what she was doing and how she was doing. I am glad to know that her life is good and I am happy for her.

Facebook. Not sure I really get the point and the addiction that every one is talking about. It is interesting for the first time around, the photos, the quick recap of their life, but then the reunion is over. Am I missing something?

For the friends I see all the time; more my style to know what they did today. But do I feel the need to make comment on their Wall? Maybe. Do I feel the need to share what I'm doing? Sometimes. But addicting? No.

Blogging ... now that is addicting!

To Keep ... Memories

I do not know why I love this picture. Other than the fact that my daughter was in second grade when she drew and colored it; I have always been struck by the artistry of the piece. The story behind the drawing is that she drew and colored it during a Read A Loud session in her second grade class. She had a book on her desk, and it was something like this picture. From the moment she brought it home, stuffed between other papers at the end of the year, I latched onto it.

Turning to a different subject, on the way to church this morning we saw the biggest Bald Eagle flying over head. With a fresh dusting of snow on the ground, and the huge evergreen trees scattered throughout our drive, it was so spectacular! The Eagle flew low above and beside our car for a good four miles. It was as if we were the black rabbit that he was trying to prey upon. Eventually, it landed on top of a tree and we continued on our way to church.

And while I am at it ... jumping from one topic to the next ... I will leave you with a great thought that was part of today's Church sermon:

The grass is greener where you water it.
